Acoustics

This workshop, organized by Filipa Samarra, Chérine Baumgartner and Olga Filatova, will aim to review the global state of knowledge of killer whale acoustic behaviour, including the signals that have been described and defined in different regions of the world and the state of knowledge on the evolution and function of these signals.

Various other topics relevant to killer whale acoustic studies will also be covered, including the use of acoustics as a tool in field studies, recording techniques and analytical methodologies, definition and classification of acoustic signals as well as consistency in quantitative measurements of acoustic signals. The workshop will aim to identify what important gaps remain in our understanding of killer whale acoustic communication and how these might be filled.
